Christianity Today blogs that the Obama campaign store has removed from sale some campaign goodies that feature the fish symbol that commonly denotes Christianity.
There are still some “Believers for Barack” items available, but they don’t have the symbol on them.
I can only hope that the campaign realized that using the word “believers” alongside a symbol of just one of the nation’s many faiths was a tad bit exclusivist. I can only hope that the elves in the Hope Workshop back in Chicago are hard at work right now, preparing “Believers for Barack” items with the symbols to represent Americans who are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist, Baha’i and every other tradition they can imagine.
I’ll even give them a place to start: The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has come up with 36 different symbols to appear on veterans’ grave markers.
That’s a lot of Obama buttons …
