Even as the secular American ideal of Church-State separation seems to be under attack in many quarters, startling new research from the Pew Forum on Faith and Public Life shows an unprecedented decline in Americans’ affiliation with organized religion. The new study, titled Nones on the Rise, also reveals that a majority of Americans are unhappy with the intermingling of religion and politics. Pew Senior Researcher Dr. Cary Funk spoke to Welton about the study, and gamely fielded his questions regarding possible real-world electoral implications of the data.
