Over the past few months, we at State of Belief have watched with dismay as some of our fellow Americans have displayed ignorance about, distrust for and outright hostility toward those who belong to the Muslim faith. From the hearings on Capitol Hill, to incendiary advertising campaigns, to propaganda regarding places of worship and Sharia law, a new wave of bigotry seems to be on the rise. Hoping to attack the lack of knowledge that provides a fertile field for such injustices, Duke University’s Islamic Studies Center and its partners in the Transcultural Islam Project have launched an ambitious new resource: ISLAMiCommentary. So, this week, Julie Harbin, writer and editor for ISLAMiCommentary and communications specialist at the Duke Islamic Studies Center, joins Welton to talk about this important new project offering scholarly answers to questions about Islam and Muslims.
