The heat of the summer and increasing risk of arrest is not slowing faith-driven activists. This week on State of Belief, Interfaith Alliance’s weekly radio show and podcast, we’ll look at recent mass actions organized by the Poor People’s Campaign. Meanwhile, the freedom offered by modern technology continues to be subverted by those who want to promote hate. It’s good that experts are analyzing this data, but the findings are far from good. And Soularize 2021 is offering a platform for connection, both online and in person, for innovative spiritual leaders and organizers.
The Poor People’s Campaign, A National Call for Moral Revival, is currently leading A Season of Non-Violent Moral Direct Action. This has included the March for Voting Rights to Austin, Texas, as well as several major actions in the nation’s capital. The Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, co-chair of the Campaign, will join Rev. Welton Gaddy, host of State of Belief, to discuss the most important moral crises of our time and how this activism will lead to positive change.
The Center for Countering Digital Hate may not be a name that rolls off the tongue – but the group’s work is at ground zero for disinformation, manipulation and social disintegration today: social networks and those who control them. Welton will sit down with the Center’s CEO, Imran Ahmed, to discuss new findings on failed attempts to stop anti-Semitic and other hate campaigns on Facebook and Twitter.
The Rev. Spencer Burke has been a leader in progressive Christianity for decades. Going beyond simply working for a more inclusive or just vision of religion, he has relentlessly been at the forefront of reinventing faith communities and spaces, as well as ministry. On this week’s show, Spencer discusses the current Soularize 2021, “A global learning party,” online at www.Soularize.live, creating spaces for innovation and connection.
