Faith leaders can play a major role in influencing Americans’ everyday decisions. We are seeing this play out on both sides of the equation, with many faithful Americans feeling compelled to take the vaccine on account of their faith, while others are being told to stay away from the lifesaving vaccine by institutional leaders. This week on State of Belief, Interfaith Alliance’s weekly radio show and podcast, we will discuss white Evangelical vaccine resistance, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa’s upcoming anniversary, and return to our discussion on the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding’s American Mosque Survey.
It is critical that faith leaders voice their support for public health measures – including the COVID-19 vaccine – as the highly contagious Delta Variant continues to spread. Faith in Public Life is working to harness the power of faith leaders in a campaign for public health. Rev. Jennifer Butler, executive director of Faith in Public Life, will join the Rev. Welton Gaddy, host of State of Belief, to discuss how they are working to reduce vaccine hesitancy.
This August, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa is celebrating its Silver Anniversary. Active almost as long as the national Interfaith Alliance itself, the Iowa affiliate has many achievements to be proud of – and many ongoing initiatives to stay busy for the next 25 years. Rev. Gaddy will sit down with Interfaith Alliance of Iowa’s executive director Connie Ryan, to discuss their accomplishments over the past 25 years, and what’s next.
Earlier this summer, State of Belief introduced the initial findings of the 2020 American Mosque Survey, courtesy of the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding. The second report from this comprehensive survey is now out. Dr. Ilhsan Bagby, primary investigator for the American Mosque Survey 2020 from the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, will join Welton to continue their discussion and share findings from their second report.
